I'm curious to know why CL chose the Texas Instruments DAC chip. I'd also like to know whether CL has any plans to release a portable DSD DAC for sources like the LG G3.

Also: Did Ken Ball have anything to do with the design of the artwork on the enclosure?

It seems CL is giving out 10% discount on all their products for Labour Day. That makes the Picollo DAC less than 500USD.

For Android devices, I think this is a better choice compared to Theorem 720 (which I own) since you do not need additional app (UAPP) to make it work and you can use apps like spotify, youtube, etc. to use it. As far as I know only FiiO E18 can do this and now Picollo DAC. Interesting stuff.

Probably size and simplicity. Frankly, I'm surprised, as while that chipset isn't complete crap, its bitrate support is generations behind what could easily be supported with a simple PCM5102 + USB receiver design. I'm afraid to say I believe CypherLabs dropped the ball here. The addition of that DAC is clearly not worth the $150 price premium over the regular Piccolo amp.

I would rather have seen a Picollo Solo variant, maintaining idevice compatibility, to mate with the Picollo amp. Maybe that's next? Hopefully it would use a more premiums dac selection as well.
