Cyclists anyone?

Sold off some bikes a while ago because I rarely have time to ride anymore. Might sell the last two soon.

Gone: Colnago Master X Light w/full Dura Ace and Flash CF fork; Litespeed Obed Titanium MTB w/full XTR and Manitou SX Ti fork; Brodie Romax (the mid-'80s MTB style frame, not the recent cyclocross model) w/full XT and Ritchey Rigid fork; '80s-vintage Cook Bros BMX frame.

Still have: Bianchi IV w/Shimano 105 (just a commuter bike now); Litespeed Hiwassee Titanium MTB w/full XTR and Manitou SX Ti fork.

If U R reeding ths and U like teh way i speld this sentense, U R prolly a mentul reeturd.

I am an indebted slave to the local bikeshop and own 4 bikes with enough spare parts to build up another 2. Cycling is just in my blood and I can't see that changing.

I do a bit of riding. I'm not a serious cyclist though by any means.

I enjoy the ride into the town about 10 miles round trip during the summer months. This weather though I tend to restrict it to going down to the Cinema or the Supermarket for shopping.

At the moment I have a Raleigh MTB. I got it late last summer to get me back into riding a bike again and will no doubt be getting a decent one this year some time when funds will allow.

BTW, i've only been out the once this week. It's real brass monkey weather on the coast

And we have snow forecast for tomorrow according to Calendar.

I've been a slug lately, mostly because it's a pain to transport my bike to a place where I can ride it (live off the infamous Sunset Strip -- *very* dangerous place to be on your bike).... About eight or nine years ago when I started cycling again, I completely lucked out as I was being very indecisive about which one I wanted. The store I was testing them at had a return -- a beautiful celeste steel Bianchi road/racing bike (back when they only made top of the line), fully loaded with Dura Ace. I would have preferred Campy, but for the price (less than 50% -- no one who was small enough to ride it could afford it!) I wasn't going to complain. Made them change the pedals (those little knobs that are impossible to release from) and the seat (I think it was the Flite Lite or some such torture device for my little bum) and voila --the perfect fit.

It's funny. I've gone about testing new ones, thinking it will renew my passion, but I can't seem to stay away from steel.... Has anyone found a bike that has the responsiveness of steel without the weight?

Exactly. Thanks minya.

Anyway, yeah, I ride a Trek 5200 and race in the juniors 18 and under category. I've never had any great racing results but I enjoy it too much to put it down. It's definitely a great way to get fit and stay fit. I'm just getting started training for this coming season... but I'll be getting a full-time job this summer so I'll hardly get to peak fitness this year. Kinda sucks, but it'll be nice to have the pressure off when it comes to getting results in races and such. Long live climbing!!

personally, i think "********" should be banned as well--no point in mispelling a word just so you can technically claim you did not say some word. all very hypocritical.

but anyway......

i just got me a Dean Duke. hopefully in a week or so i'll have a complete XTR drivetrain. all other components are top-of-the-line.... ti handlebar, ti stem, ti seat post, spd xt/xtr clipless pedals, carbon spinergy wheels...... the works....

and i'm still FAT.

damn pisses me off.

alright......... i really gotta get my ass off this chair!

Wow u got a DEAN Ti bike? they are sooooooooo nice! Hey bein fat is something that can be changed! Luckily im not in that situation. Im lean and all i ever do is cycle and watch what i eat. Cut out the Snacks and have solid regular meals and weight drops big time. its easy.

Also agree that typing ******** should be banned too! Well said!

heh he, yeah... well, my name's Dean, and they have always made my all-time dream bikes... since i was a kid.

so now i got one.

i actually was not always fat. i used to ride my GT Zaskar EVERYWHERE. i was lean... and had a 6 pack. i could ride averaging 25mph for hours on my road bike.

but alas, i sat on my ass for 5 years, and here i am.

so, i'm hoping that owning a $4000 mountain bike would get me moving again. you know.... i spent all this, i gotta use it right???

god i hope so!

Modern titanium bikes such as the Seven Cycles Axiom do, but the cost is rather steep to say the least. I don't own one but the shop I work for sells them so I get to ride them whenever they come in for assembly or tuneups. They have the nice snappy feel of a good steel bike without the harsh ride or "dead" feeling of aluminum or carbon fiber. I haven't taken any on multi-hour rides (the shop would be pissed at me if I did) but the owners agree that they're at least as comfortable as steel bikes.

Now if you really have a wad of money burning a hole in your pocket, get a titanium & carbon fiber frame such as the Seven Cycles Odonata. Just as fast & responsive as the Ti bike but even lighter and smoother. It filters out all the bumps in the road and gives a super smooth ride. Costs a pretty penny though, for the cost of the frame alone you could buy a full Stax Omega II system and have a few hundred bucks left over.

I have a Nicolai Lambda, two Santa Cruz Bullits, an Evil Imperial and a couple of others...

... and I haven't ridden them since last year. I have been out to the shops and the pub on the Lambda a few times... (shrinks back in shame).

I used to do a lot of riding and I used to break a lot of bones. Unfortunately running a business tends to make you risk-wary. There's getting old too of course...
