Hey all long time lurker first time poster. Just wanted to get y'alls thoughts on the FREQ 5. I picked up a sealed pair of the special editions on the cheap and was wondering if I should even open them or just resell them and upgrade?

I haven't experienced that specific set, but in general I've never been very impressed with "gaming headsets" over the years.

I bought it mostly for the mic. But I guess my best bet will be to sell it and invest that in a good mic?

You could get something like the Antlion and attach it to whatever headphones you wanted, but I don't know if that'd cost more or less than what you have now. Will it really kill their value at resale if you open them and try them out for a few hours?

I got a pair at a tournament for a gift. Overall the sound is okay, but nothing to write home about. The mic is good for games or voice chat clients nice and clear. Main problem is the overall quality with cracks on the headband and the cord going in to the headphones that ended up losing all sound.
 
Rating for bang for the buck would be a 6/10 due to the not so bad 50mm drivers.
