Customs vs Universals in the $400 range

Well, armature drivers don't cost that much - in fact Sleek and Ety probably use the most expensive BA drivers out there. However, it is a free market, meaning, if the manufacturer wants to charge that much extra; and with premium products, premiums prices always apply - they can.

I agree, if people will pay it them charge it. By the looks of the 13 thread, it looks like people will pay it.

it seems you have left out the cost of the delicate extra cabling, the crossover circuits and the extra work it takes to fix 6 drivers into the housing..i also believe that the tuning of 6 drivers should prove a bit more work than tuning 2.

just to get the pricing into perspective.
however i am also of the opinion that the profit margin should be the highest on their flagship. Makes business sense, no?

Yes, the 13's do seem unproportionately expensive compared to the 5's, but isn't this true with all audio equipment? The better the headphones get, the more you pay for the same amount of improvement.

Anyways, you guys have got me convinced on the JH5. Now i've just got to find an audiologist who will do the impressions for a good price. Anyways, thanks to everybody for the input, and even though I didn't really get a whole answer to my question, I think I'll be more than happy with these.

Island hearing. You live in vancouver, there's a location in north and west vancouver. $19.80 per pair. How does that sound?

Please let us know your feedback when you get them. I am seriously considering some JH5's as well. It's either that or ES3X's for twice the price.

Awesome, thanks for that! I'll give them a call in the morning. Is this where you got your impressions made?
EDIT: Wow, just looking at your profile and noticed you have three pairs of customs on the way. Good on you!

Yea, I'll make sure to let you know how they are. Even though I don't have a whole lot to compare to, I can give some general impressions. I really wanted the ES3X as well, but I have other more pressing things to buy like speaker cables and a new preamp.
