In comparing custom IEMs from Livewires, Ultimate Ears, Westone etc.

What material are the monitors (shells) made out of. I believe the Livewires are made out of hard acrylic

Do any of the other manufactors use different material (say a softer compound), which would yield possibly a better fit?

Thanks

I have the livewires and they are indeed made from hard acrylic, but have seen a pair of ACS customs which use a use a softer silicone material.

Personally i prefer the acrylic as it's a bit more durable over time but others may prefer or find they get a more comfortable fit with a silicone version.

my ears have aversion to silicon and i get sore after only a little amount of time. my sleek customs are acrylic and very comfortable. also, if they don't fit right, they can be coated merely with a bit of nail polish to achieve perfect fit. great great phones.
