Hello headphone friends!
Starting in August I will be studying sound design (though the course covers far more than just designing sounds), and I will be working with bands and on stage as well as just with a DAW in a quiet classroom. I'll be travelling 30 minutes on the bus and 1 hour on the train twice a day too.
I was thinking that custom in ear monitors would be the perfect choice for me, being useful on the road, on stage, and in the classroom both as hearing protection and monitors, and it seems that the ideal model for me would be the Ultimate Ears Reference cIEMs.
But $1000 is quite a lot for a soon-to-be student, and there are many more things I could use that money for, so I'm wondering what options there are for comparable but cheaper custom iems that wouldn't disappoint me.
I can technically afford the Reference pair, but I'm not so sure it should be my priority when it comes to spending money.
