Hi everyone,

I'm new to the head-fi forum. I bought a pair of Shure SE530s that are less than a month old and already I'm seeing the cables start to bend and harden near each IEM. I was wondering, if anyone has ever taken the headphones apart and replaced the cable with a custom cable such as the Triple-fi 10s? They could then easily be swapped when cable damage occurs. Seeing as I'm new to the seen, I realize this may be impossible because they might be completely incompatible, but perhaps there are other options that would fit the Shures.

TIA

the shures dont have a plug and need to be cracked open and hardwired. its doable though, but fiddly and not cheap

I had the same problem with the E500's, which shure replaced. According to a tech at shure, if you dip a cloth in a mild soap and water solution and wipe the wires weekly or more frequently, they will never harden or crack.

It seems some people, myself included , have a skin secretion that causes this the insulation to dry out and crack. I've been wiping down the wires on the SE530's and will keep an eye out for any cracks. It did take about 6 months for the first ones to appear on the E500. So I will ppost an update in September.

As long as your pair of Shure SE530's were made after early 2008 the wires don't crack anymore because Shure changed the wire formula.
