Ever since the fix to allow text underneath quotes was implemented, what was an occasional problem is now a standard problem. 
When the cursor isn't displayed Firefox doesn't pick up spelling mistakes, nor can you press enter to go down a line.
 
The way around it is to click "Source" then click it again, but that's hardly a fix.

Yeah, exact same issue here. It is REALLY annoying and should be fixed soon!
Using Camino and Firefox - same issue in both browsers.

It seems the issue only occurs if you don't quote anyone to instigate your reply... or at least for me.

Not I, happens without quoting. It is really iritating! Hopefully it doesn't last much longer. I am getting sick of writing in notepad and copy+pasting it over haha

That's what I meant... also try clicking "Source" twice - it fixes the problem for me.

Well, it works around the bug - but certainly do not fix it.
