I have a set of RS-1s coming in so naturally I'm watching the tracking like a hawk so naturally I was happy when I saw this: "2006/10/0110:39 International shipment has arrived in Canada". This was on a Sunday no less but since then nothing has been updated and this isn't very descriptive at all. Has anyone else seen this and possibly knows if something is wrong? or should I just wait?

Canada Post's tracking is next to useless. You don't really know where it entered Canada ( where was it coming from? ), so it may take a few days to get to your local sorting center. Plus, customs could be holding it up. I wouldn't panic just yet.

I got to be honest when recieving stuff from Canada I have always found it one of the best mail services. Only Japan in my experience has better service.

Now if you want to see bad then good thing you don't live in the UK. I have had a set of Rs-1's lost and then returned to me a few months later but it never actually got to it destination.

10 days for a set of flat pads to reach the US even though I paid for "express service" and currently a Melos amp which according to the post master should only take 3-4 days to get to NYC but as of yet is MIA...I posted it last Tuesday

I'm pretty ignorant about all this but I'm just about to make a major purchase (camera lens) from Canada and the person is sending using Canada Post of course.

When it reaches my country (overseas), will they pass the duties over to the local post?

Once the parcel has arrived, it could easily be held up in Customs for a week.

I'm actually quite fond of both Canada Post and the USPS since they don't feel the need to gouge the crap out of you just to move something across the border (I'm looking at you UPS

). Usually though the tracking system for Canada Post is a little better then is has been right now that's the only reason why I'm worried. I wouldn't care that much if it wasn't for the fact that I'm really anxious to hear the RS-1s

. Well It looks like I'm going to have to wait until they show up at my door without warning (hopefully before the long weekend).

Generally Canadapost works like this:

2006/10/02 10:38 WATERLOO, ON Item successfully delivered to Receiver
2006/10/02 10:38 Signature image recorded for Online viewing KWOK
2006/10/02 09:22 WATERLOO, ON Item out for delivery
2006/09/29 16:34 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item has been processed and is enroute to the delivery office
2006/09/29 16:29 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item accepted and entered into sortation plant
2006/09/28 18:14 MISSISSAUGA, ON International item has been sent to Canadian Customs for processing
2006/09/28 18:13 MISSISSAUGA, ON International item has arrived in Canada
2006/09/28 18:07 International shipment has arrived in Canada
2006/09/26 16:58 International shipment has left the origin country and is en route to Canada
2006/09/26 16:41 International item has left the origin country and is en route to Canada
2006/09/25 15:48 International item has been posted in origin country

However, in your case, they may have neglected to display the Canadian Customs scan on the online tracking, like in this shipment:

2006/09/29 11:32 WATERLOO, ON Item successfully delivered to Receiver
2006/09/29 11:32 Signature image recorded for Online viewing KWOK
2006/09/29 08:35 WATERLOO, ON Item out for delivery
2006/09/29 01:04 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item accepted and entered into sortation plant
2006/09/29 00:51 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item has been processed and is enroute to the delivery office
2006/09/28 16:42 MISSISSAUGA, ON International item has arrived in Canada
2006/09/28 16:42 International shipment has arrived in Canada
2006/09/27 16:11 International shipment has left the origin country and is en route to Canada
2006/09/27 09:36 International item has left the origin country and is en route to Canada
2006/09/26 12:49 International item has been posted in origin country

How long it sits in Customs depends on how it was declared -- full declaration shipments usually take a few days for me, while simple items go in and out of customs within a few hours (like in the second example above)

I'm kinda miffed at their tracking. And how long it's taking my packages to get there.

I guess I'm just impatient.

It may stick at the Customs,I have that experiences that showing "has arrived in Canada" about a week, but nothing updates, then I got a letter which asked me to prove the value of my item(send them a receipt or something).
It's happened twice ,the first time is my dad sent me a pair of HD600 from China.
second time is I purchased a pocket PC from US.

The hold up is definitely with customs. I've had things shipped from overseas (Japan) on a Thursday and I received it in my hands on the Tuesday so total of 4 business days and I've also had an order from the same company take 3 weeks and that time customs opened up the package and check. So depending on how long customs take, it can vary in length unfortunately.

My gs1k's took over a month to reach their destination. They had tracking and Canada post said it would take 7-10 days.

When I purchased rs-1's, they took almost a month to arrive from the states, no tracking. Whats with my luck with shipping times and wooden grados. :p

Biggie.

Custom can hold up thing for a very long time I think back in 2000 I order some books from the states. From the stamp on the package it took 1 week to arrived in canada and 4 F*ing weeks to clear custom. So I waited 5 weeks total but that was a shipping without tracking so a cheaper service. Now my other deal with US I used global priority or global express and it usually take a week to a week and a half to arrive at my door not that I buy that often so YMMV

Shipping delays when importing into Canada are caused by customs 99.999999% of the time. It really is quite a joke. Sea mail from the UK is significantly faster than air mail from the US. I had a part shipped air mail from Germany a couple weeks ago, and it arrived here in five days, including a weekend. I wouldn't expect it in anything less than five weeks if it was coming from the States. If you care about your package don't have it shipped by anything less than EMS.

I've never had an issue with customs until now, I should have just driven south to Montana and picked it up I would have had it that day
