There are a few here with the ATH-W1000.

For any of you that have this headphone do you also have the Xin 75 ohm plug? Or the Xin plug with the 75 ohm Xinfeed? I do!

If so; have you every paired the plug with the W1000s?

Is so; what do you think of the sound difference between this and the straight W1000?

In general is there any science to what a few extra ohms do two the sound of a phone?

I am beginning to think the higher the impedance of a phone the better the overall sound. I did this with my DT880s as well and also find a sound a little more refined with those as well.

I tried my W1000 rather briefly with the Oehlbach 120 ohm adapter, but didn't bother to test much because the sound didn't improve. It was rather the opposite. The bass seemed to become a little leaner, and the W1000 doesn't need that. The highs didn't change much, not to the better anyway.

This was tested on my MAD Ear++ tube amp.

By the way, I really like my W1000, and don't think it deserves its bad reputation. However, it's a little pricey.

Totally agree the W1000 does not deserve its rather poor head-fi reputation. There are, however, some of us fanboys. So to speak.

I'm totally enjoying my W1000's!! I feed them through an upgraded Nile Audio tube-amp and the sound is so musical! I find that I can listen to music for much longer periods than I can with my Sennhesier HD600's.

Can someone here help me with what I am missing w/r/t the W1000? I WANT to like it, but just can't. It seems soulless to me.

Maybe it's just not possible for someone who primarily likes German headphones to like even the good ones from Japan. I hated the Sony SA3000's too.
