it's unfortunate the boards are so expensive, although by the looks of it they are well made. There was a discussion over at diyAudio about a valve buffer (which is what I'm looking for) but I couldn't see how to implement the 6DJ8/6922 at a low voltage and I don't really know anything about valve design, which probably contributes something to that fact

anyway, as I said, fine job all

You might try contacting Percy Audio to see if he sells just the copper plate that the Alpha Core inductors are made out of. I remember someone mentioning that in the past but I can't remember where they said they got the raw Alpha Core plate from. However, it might be too thin for this purpose. Just a thought.

On further inspection, it could be copper tape since i can see the protoboard's holes throught the copper. Also, where i imagine the tape was cut, setmenu soldered the peices together.

The copper is 35micron thick foil sourced from a company that
produces flexible laminates.
It was joined to the board with pressure from a soldering iron
bonding it to the pre-tinned pads on the board.

Hi Mark-

That looks great (*super* tight layout), and it sounds like the performance is all there, too. Nice. Is this your first revision, or have you been fiddling with a few prior versions?

I particularly like your comments about how it might possibly measure versus how it sounds. Got your priorities right

Hi
I blame you for getting sucked into this stuff
wink.gif
.
This is my first 'scratch built' diy audio circuit, prior to that the only
audio electronic thing I had assembled was your Pimeta prize.

So yes, this is my first 'revision' of the dac.
I am pretty pleased with the sound, there is less HF energy than I
am used to.
Perhaps the sound can now be considered less CD like?
I have read that some consider these dacs to have a more
analogue sound..

Before I mess with further versions I would like to make a compacted version of the Pimeta to share the enclosure with
the dac.
That means I will have to work out how to connect the two
together when sharing a single battery, virtual grounds etc..

Cheers
