From what I understand (long time Karma user... experiencing battery problems) crossfade is available only on iTunes, while gapless exists on both iTunes and iPods. Do I understand things correctly?

Thanks Andhyka, I was aware of Rockbox. But as long as they can't fix the battery issue with 5.5 iPods, for me it's a dead end.

I'm surprised about the lack of crossfade. Gapless is tough to implement correctly but crossfade? Should be pretty easy.

Thanks for your answers.

Rockbox developer amiconn recently achieved 16+ hour battery life on a 2G iPod with a 1600 maH battery. He's the same developer who fixed the battery bug with Rockbox on the H300 series and doubled run time on that platform. While we never make any promises as to when developments will happen, I personally am hopeful that he will turn his attention to the 5G soon. We'll see what happens.
