Judging by the CES footage on Youtube they are more to do with graphics then audio, actually both, but it seems parallel HD graphics processing is one of the strenghts:

YouTube - High-Definition Video Playback in your Hand - Zii StemCell Computing
YouTube - High Definition Dual Screen Support - Zii StemCell Computing

The zii.com shows a demo with Ed Winchester's voice now, pretty cool. Long though.

The Zii is not a sound processor. Is a scalable processor with a fixed amount of cores that can be dynamically allocated to handle different processes. More cores can be allocated to process more intensive calculations, speeding up such processes or entirely shut off to save power. The reference to stem cell is only in terms of similarity in the concept. I don't believe the Zii was engineered after stem cells initially as such processors already exist. The chip also wasn't built ground up but engineered from the existing 3DLabs (which Creative owns) DMS-02 chip as reported by Engadget. Just like the Sony cell processor, this won't end up being the super computer in your pocket Creative is calling it.
