Is it possible to make it so the screen stays on when you're using line out? Currently when I use line-out for my headphones the thing says "Switching to AV Out display" and then the screen goes black.

I don't own one but I remember reading that there is a setting somewhere to enable audio lineout. I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out better

Actually all you have to do is disable the video out in the System > Video/Photo Settings menu.
