I don't know if this has ever been done before on this board, but I thought it might be fun to create a supergroup with members that might create music you'd most like to hear. Mine might go something like this:

Band Type: Rock & Roll
Bassist, Songwriter, & Backup Vocalist: Paul McCartney
Lead Guitarist: Brian May
Rhythm Guitarist: Johnny Marr
Drummer & Backup Vocalist: Dave Grohl
Lead Singer & Keyboardist: Kelly Jones(Stereophonics)

I think this group would create some good melodic music. The type I most enjoy.

Drums: Carter Beauford (dmb)
Guitar: Warren Haynes (alman brothers / govt mule)
Bass: Victor Wooten (flecktones)
Banjo: Bela Fleck (flecktones)
Singer: None, i just wanna hear them jam

I was trying to think of some play on Radiohead/kings of leon/Rolling Stones but in the end decided to go the other direction and see a Steve Lawler/Danny Tenaglia collaboration simply entitled "Lets Get Twisted".

I'd lock Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Karl Jenkins, Brian Eno, David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, Thijs van Leer, Taj Mahal, Ian Anderson, Donald Fagen and Mark Knopfler in a holosuite for a year or until they came up with the greatest album ever put together by mortal men.

For a band?

Guitar - Mike Oldfield
Bass - Mike Mills
Drums - Ron Bushy
Keyboards - Rick Wakeman
Vocals - Tom Jones

Would be strange and cool.

Genre: Symphonic metal

Singers: Simone Simons (Epica) and Sharon del Adel (Within Temptation)
Bass & Backup Vocals: Marco Hietala (Nightwish)
Lead Guitar: Emppu (Nightwish)
Backup Guitar: Toki Wartooth (Dethklok)
Keyboards: Michael Pinella (Symphony X)
Drums: Hellhammer (Dimmu Borgir, among MANY others)
plus a full choir and orchestra.

EDIT: I'm having second thoughts about the drummer... Hellhammer could drown out a Space Shuttle launch.

Maybe Jukka from Nightwish?

EDIT 2: I'd also make a Prog Metal supergroup, but it would most likely be Rush, Opeth and Symphony X locked in The Dungeon 'till they got along.

EDIT 3: Also, the producer would be whoever did Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy.

In both cases.
