Hi everyone,

My first post is a call for help.  I've had my X9 for about a year and a half.  I was listening to it the other day and it froze up on me randomly....the screen stayed displayed for hours until I tried a hard reset (- and + volume at the same time).  It never came back on after that.  I tried plugging it into my computer and I got a device driver download window that showed up for a short period of time and went away.  Now, nothing happens when I plug it in.

Any suggestions for repairing this or at least recovering the hard drive (good chunk of songs aren't backed up on my computer.....).  I read about a tool called tctool, but it looks like that only applies to a few other models.

Advice is appreciated!

Thanks

Hi mate. It's been one year since you posted this, so I hope you get an e-mail notification of my answer. Well, it's not that I have found a solution, but actually I would like to know if you could finally solve your problem, and if so, how did you do it.

I had exactly the same problem as yours. I had the Cowon X9 for about 4 months and it was working fine. I uploaded and deleted music several times and I even upgraded the latest firmware available at the Cowon website with no issues. But today, while I was trying to select a folder I had selected many times before, it suddenly froze. The rest of the story is the same as yours.

I thought of what could I've done different from all the other times I used the Cowon before and I realised that the last time I turned it off was by using the touch screen interface, something I never used to do (I would just let it turn off automatically).

Well, thanks for your time in case you get to read this.

Hi guys!
I just made an account to share my experience because I was able to repair a Cowon X9.
I'm not using personally this player but someone asked to me if I could repair it. It looks like it was in the same situation you described, and reset with volume buttons doesn't worked either (we can hear new device detection on USB on reset).
So I tested the USB cable's power supply, it was ok, then tried to open the back of the device to check quickly the battery and it was ok 4.0V and stopped this day.
I continued opening the device 1 or 2 days after the check and battery was on over discharge protection circuit. Then I tried to unsolder battery and supply directly 4V myself but it doesn't boot.
After a full disassembly (in order once back opened: 2 battery wires to unsolder, 3 connectors to free, 3 screws on pcb, 1 speaker to unstick and 4 screws for the screen), I reassembled it because nothing special was found, I tried again to supply current myself and it draws way much current than before (~70mA) and booted. I soldered battery back, closed the x9 and it just said "battery low".

So in conclusion (TL;DR), full disassembly, full reassembly and it worked again, I still don't know why exactly.

I just can think it was because the circuit was without battery for a moment ( full hardware reset ) or connectors were not connected right ( They were looking ok though )

I can share one picture of the inside http://imgur.com/gallery/Q0XyjAq

I hope it helps
