Please, what about the A2 display/video quality vs Zune and ZVM?

Ummm... A2 display is significantly larger than the Zune and the ZVM. It has a 4" widescreen. It's also nicely bright, very clear, and with very good viewing angles. I love the thing. It has it's software-related shortcomings (mostly related to the music interface), but the sound quality, codec support, and video playback quality are all superb. It's actually very frustrating that the music playback interface isn't better since the sound quality is so good.

The A2 is first and formost a VIDEO player, though. If you're looking for something primarily for AUDIO playback, you might want to look elsewhere due to the software limitations.

But again, to answer your original question, the screen is superb.

I was thinking about getting a Cowon A2 but I think I will go with the zune and use my soon to be laptop for portable video.

I also own a Cowon A2, 30 giger and its awesome! was able to watch a movie and a half while waiting for a connecting flight. the battery life gives me about 7+ hours on video alone! you may or may not want to wait for the new A3 or Q5 from Cowon, they should be released soon. I think the Q5 is set to release in Korea at the end of this month! check the iaudiophile.net forums, they seem to have it down when it comes to Cowon products.
on another note, i also purchased a D2 recently, and it being tiny and pocketable, it now serves as my primary mp3 player. Screen is just as good if not better than the A2 and it has an expansion slot.

sorry as i cant really answer your questions about comparing it other PMP's but from my own experience, it seems to be the one of the best available at the moment.

it has practically the same screen as psp in terms of quality, size and resolution, which is alot. Sound quality is also on par with x5. If bulkiness is not your main consideration, go for it.

For me getting a Cowon A2 was the best choice in portable audio/Video ever.
I could live without my iMod but not without the A2.
The only thing that will possibly beat the A2 is the upcoming A3!

How does the sound from the iMod compare to the Cowon A2? I've always been curious about this. The A2 sounds excellent to me, but I'm curious to know if the iMod is worth an extra investment.

does the A2 suffer from any problems as far as audio that I could avoid by going with the x5/x5l?

I am torn between the two, because I will really be buying to get my FLAC onto a portable device, but the A2 (and coming A3) are just so... cool looking

. Loads of nice features.

I can't say for sure if I'd use the video a lot as I've never had such a device before... but that's not for any of you to answer, I'm just curious if I'm gimping my listening by going with the more feature packed PMP.

I checked the iaudio forums and they didn't seem to directly say anything... plus generally - although I've not posted - I trust you guys more.

thanks.

Correct me if im wrong, but I believe A2 has pretty much the same audio innards as x5, offering exactly the same audio enhancements and specs. On the other hand A2 has a dedicated line-out on the body, as opposed to x5 which needs a crappy subpack plugged in to have line out.

if the a2 is the way to go, I will definitely wait for hte a3... just wanted to make sure it was worth the money over the x5, and it sounds like it is.

thanks for the help. that gives me two months at least to make sure this is the right portable player for me... or to maybe try and afford an iMod.

The A2 has not a real dedicated line out, it is a sort of hybrid. Connecting it to a good amp does nothing for the sound quality, it sometimes even makes it worse.

Although the A2 is a very good sounding device and clearly beats any iPod, amped or not, the iMod sounds more relaxed and neutral then the A2.
The Cowon has a tendency to overdo things, which is no problem with normal headphones but can be a pain with high quality In Ears and such.
