Are these two comparable for sound quality. Does anyone know?

i had a hard time picking between d2 and s9. i chose d2 b/c of the expansion slot, smaller size, and its shape (better to bundle with smaller amps).
i love the sound of it.

Besides the increased sound customizable options of the S9 and the memory card expansion of the D2, there is also the

Cowon D2 Rockbox compatibility
and the
Cowon S9 Gapless playback.

Lets not forget screen size and dimensions as well.

All-in-all, it all matters as to which features you prefer over others.

Only the firmware, from bbe to bbe+, hardly any difference

Personally I would choose the S9. Honestly it depends on what you're going to be using on it. If the stock space with whatever version of the S9 you're getting is enough I would suggest getting that but if you want to expand for videos and stuff I would say to get the D2+.

The S9 will have a better screen and will be smaller though.

I find that the D2 has a slightly smoother finish with just a hint of raspberry and vanilla. The S9 is a bit more full bodied with an oaky and pecan gesture followed by just the slightest insinuation of citrus and currants.
