I'm thinking of downloading CS off Steam. Which version should I get? Someone at work told me to stick to the old 1.6, although IMO it seems a little outdated. Opinions?

Source, but Team Fortress 2 is more fun IMO.

(I'm playing the TF2 beta, by the way. Comes out October 10th)

Hmm. I have a feeling my crappy computer may have a problem running it then. I should seriously upgrade my ram.

If you're newish to CS, don't consider 1.6 at this point. I've played CS since the early betas (beta 3), and 1.6 was by far the worste release IMO.

Source is friendlier to beginners, it doesn't feel as cheap, it looks a lot better, and all the pro teams are switching to source. 1.6 is ugly and it has a lot of quirky gameplay and wall spamming to learn. Source is a bit more straight forward and feels like a modern game.

If you find a server with lot of responsible admins its a non-issue, atleast, it is in source on my server.

Not to mention, Source does wonderful at high and widescreen resolutions. 1.6 runs high resolutions, but playing 1.6 @ 1680x1050 and it's near impossible to get really good. 1.6 works best at the lower older resolutions (640, 800, 1024, and even 1280, though not as much)

Also, you can't "shoot" people up in Source. I guess that's better realism but is it as fun
