My ear buds are starting to die and I am ready to upgrade and need some good looking, while being fairly inexpensive (150 bucks tops), over ear, noise canceling, preferably with iThing controls, headphones that my super audiophile boyfriend will approve of (ie, no Beats or Bose)

Unfortunately, in my opinion there aren't many "cool looking" noise cancelin headphones out there. At least not for your price range. I will however recommend the Audio Technica ATH-ANC 7b. You can find them on amazon for $144 right now and on ebay you can find them for as low as $130 (granted I looked for a few seconds I'm sure you can find a better deal).
 
I got mine last year for $109 on ebay and love them, I think they look decent and I'm sure you won't get weird stares walking around with them. Plus I'm also positive you're audiophile BF will be very impressed with your purchase.
