I have ripped all my cd's into flac files, for storages and for streaming on my compter and home speakers. I also play music on my mobile (HTC One m8 / Soundmagic e80) and my car system (Peuget Smeg+) For that purpose i use Lossy format files.
The lossy files i got from converting my flac to m4a FDK (ACC) VBR Quality 4.
I'm wondering if i should do it over in quality 5. The converter have 5 quality steps 1-5 with the estimated bitrates of 64, 80, 96, 144 and 224. It will take me a long time to recode all my files. Will i gain much in changing from quality 4 (144 kb/s) to quality 5 (224 kb/s)
I have tried to find something on the subject. But i can only find old threads with mp3 and cbr. I'm guessing that FDK ACC files with variable bitrates has a better quality/compression ratio than older formats.
What do you normally do, when you need convert files?
Thanks

I use MP3s, so don't know about AAC.

Why not convert some and try and see what you think? Then do this comparison test that Lifehacker talks about: http://lifehacker.com/5903625/mp3-or-lossless-see-if-you-can-hear-the-difference-with-this-test
