converting flac?

what program do i need to convert flac files to mp3s

foobar does it.

Yeah I use foobar's transcoder to do this. Works great.

You could just download foobar for this.

Add the FLACs to the playlist area, select them and right-click. An option will be 'convert', either choose a type of conversion or go custom and use any encoder.
The mp3s do use the Lame encoder.

if i were to use foobar to convert FLAC to something else , like say MP3,does the original FLAC file still exist? or is it long gone? whats a good format of file for average size? that audiophiles are content with?

are there other programs besides foobar that are popular to convert files?

The file stay intact.

Use foobar2000, latest version.

That one, when you go to convert using LAME MP3, it has a slider letting you obviously see what settings you are using. --fast or no --fast, v#, etc.
