Yeah sounds about right. But OP said it's going on an ipod so V0 will give bigger file size with no noticeable increase in sound quality. V3 or V4 might even be prefered.

Ogg is much better at low bit rates like 64 Kbps. But doesn't sound as good to me at > 192kbps compared to mp3 (ogg is too bright - trying to sound better than the original).

There is also one called Xrecode. It's free and converts many formats. I use it a lot.

you can use foobar. right click the song and click convert. select MP3 (LAME).
