What would you think of a USB DAC/amp, like a DAC1 USB or better, combined with audio player software that could automatically set the volume of the DAC/amp to a specified SPL (rms, peak, etc.)?
Of course, the software would require the user to tell it what headphones were being used, and it would scan audio files to determine their sound levels (replaygain-like). So for example, the user could set LCD-2.1, 85dB peak, and press play in the software and viola!
I think this should be easily accomplished, . . . and would be a definite step up from digital sound level adjustment that occurs inside a computer.
Anybody else have an opinion about a setup like this?
