Considering Netbooks. Didn't I Already Post This?

Yeah most of (all) the netbooks use the same processor then go from there. Some have Bluetooth and Wireless N (1000H) while others are prettier (Asus S101) but the base models are similar.

Sucks HP does not use 3 USB ports as that is a deal breaker for me. I want to use a wired mouse, external hard drive and have a spare for anything else.

Inkmo, have you see the pics of Windows 7 running on an Asus netbook yet? They said it ran pretty well considering it has 1GB of RAM loaded.

So I was a little quick to speak before when I was talking about problems this thing has with music. I'm listening to mp3s on it as I post this and having no problems at all. ::knock on wood::

It still does the hiss in the left channel thing when there is no sound playing, though....

No I havent seen the pics of Windows 7 yet, but I'm not really interested in an OS that it takes a gig of ram to run. Why, is it really bad ass? Will I change my tune upon seeing these screens?

^The current build floating on the web isn't the same one that was shown off, and isn't much better than Vista. Enh. I'll wait for that one. In the mean time I'm gonna stick to xp, at least on my dated desktop.

Personally, on an eee, I'd run an nlited copy of xp. I think my old install was only about 500mb, left me 3.5gb of ssd, and 16gb on my sd card. I'm gonna try some flavors of linux though since I've never really toyed with it.

BTW< some targets also have that 900 for $350 instore. My friend picked up a 901 for $380 after live cashback, so I'd rather hop on one from ebay with the 30% off.

My little bro has played with Ubuntu Linux and nLited XP on his desktop a lot and said he found Ubuntu to have less bloat than an extremely nLited install of XP. I think he was just talking about how fast things seemed to work and not the OS's footprint on his desktop. He says he's really come to like Ubuntu.

Another thing I was kinda considering is maybe the Debian distro they've made for the Eee.. . but perhaps after I have more Linux experience.

I ordered an ASUS 1000HA from zipzoomfly.com $415 shipped & no sales tax. 6 cell battery 1gig ram 160gb hd Windows XP 10.2" screen. Will post my thoughts when it arrives next week.

I had a 701 running eeebuntu NBR/Standard and with 512 ram it ran nicely, altho i used an 8GB SDHC card for my /usr directory and i didnt run out of space.

I now have a 901 running eeebuntu Standard after i messed around with ubuntu eee, only picked eeebuntu because it was configured how i wanted it OOB. Linux is the way to go for any of the netbooks though, any windows programs i need i can run with WINE.

Got my S10 today. It is pretty sweet for what it is. Very small with good build quality. Pretty quiet and pretty fast for a 1.6Ghz Atom. I am very happy with it so far. Need to find a small screwdriver to install the 2GB RAM though. The logitech BT mouse is sweet too. Small and comes with it's own carrying pouch.

Dell mini reporting in here. I have a 320 gig USB HD Passport. This unit now has 2 gigs of main memory and a 16gig SSD with a 16 gig memory card that is seen as another HD takes to a HP driver hack. Works like a charm for a music server as long as I don't want to use it's headphone out which is very noisey.

Just got an Asus 1000HA. 1gb ( soon 2b 2gb) 160 gig hd Intel Atom cpu, 10" screen, 6 cell battery, Windows XP. Highly recommended as long as you are not a power user.

For those willing to wait for a while, I wholeheartedly suggest the pandora.

Its an UMPC/gaming device about the size of a nintendo ds, has a full keboard, an estimated 10 hour battery life at full tilt, and features what look to be very nice audio components (Burr Brown dac, 150mw @ 16 ohm amp).
First batch (preorder is over) will ship before christmas, second batch planned to ship in the first quarter of 2009.

I will be getting one from the second batch.

The new HP Mini note 1000 is looking like a real winner. The design is just gorgeous and the keyboard is almost full size. Plus they ditched that terrible Via processor.

Now if they would just release a 6-cell version...
