I currently have a Sony D-NF430 walkman and it doesnt have a line out. Would connecting a portable amp to the headphone out make any difference in sound quality or would it be a waste. If so, are there any pcdp currently available (dont want to purchase an older model) with a decent line out or would I have to convert to an mp3 player. Thanks.

its commonly known that the line out is the best option.

However, if you dont have that you best option is to turn up your player all the way and connect it to you amp.

I do this with my Zen and my Govibe. I do sometimes test the lineout with the dock, depending on which headphones im using, i cant tell a difference.

Now, if i put it my IEM, then i can tell a difference.

Thanks. I was researching a bit and it seems that the main drawbacks are possibly having noise and distortion at louder volume levels. I guess Ill just have to try it out.
