Hi, I am new here. I have a question regarding how to set up a receiver to a computer.
I got a 10 year old mini stereo system(XR-p970f) that's just lying around, which only has RCA in,
and xonar dg for a sound card.
What would be the best way to connect these? SPDIF or analog to RCA?
I've read that SPDIF doesn't send 5.1. Would it make difference if the receiver has dolby feature?
or is that same as turning on dolby from PC?

spdif certainly sends 5.1
i have an ancient hp2003 mediacenter windows xp with a digital out realtek upgraded hd soundcard contected to spdif in on my avr
i use mediamonkey and my cd collection including dvd-a albums is in FLAC and it sounds great on my 7.1 system
but if you only have an rca out it will go to your avr as analogue(i think) and just get reproduced  as such the dolby reproduction will still be analogue
also listen to MOG sent the same way sounds great even at only 320kbps
hope this helps bobbmd
