I know that it is actually considered wrong in HiFi to connect a DAC with only an unbalanced RCA output to dual amplifiers with a Y-split cable, but since I connected so without noticing any problems, it has worked pretty well. However, I should add that I only use one amplifier at a time.
But today I noticed that the sound was very distant and cracked, as if the voltage was too low in a portable player or that speakers/headphones was cracked. Then I tried to unplug the RCA cable from the amplifier that was shutted off, and it immediately sounded good again.
As I different times want to listen in different systems/rooms, and do not want to unplug and reconnect every time, I wonder if anyone knows if it is really a big problem to have an extra turned off amplifier connected simultaneosly to the same connection at the DAC/source?
The only solution I see in that case, is to get an RCA switch, however this will not be prefered either if one will have the best possible connection!
