Could a tube microphone preamp(used for warming the sound when live recording) be used successfully with a non tube headphone amp for warming the sound ?

this is what i tried as my first attempt at amping my cans. it failed. the reason being that my tube mic preamp (ART Tube MP) was MONO, and therefore sent a mono signal to my headphone amp. In turn, the headphone amp sent just one channel signal mono to my left ear, and that's it. even if i got a mono to stereo splitter, i'd just get the same one-channel mono signal going to both ears, bah.
so unless your mic preamp is stereo, or like my new mic preamp has two discrete channels and you can fudge a stereo balanced in/out, you're better off not trying to use it as a preamp.
