Hi guys :) Want to buy Sennheiser HD 438 or 439, what r the differences? Should i grab 438 or 439? I'll use these only with my home PC. Does these need AMP? Plz, recommend some affordable AMPs, preferable from FiiO. Thanks a lot in advance :) Plz dont recommend anything other than Sennheiser coz I m from India where I can not find all kind of headphones :frowning2: P.S I have already posted the same post here (http://www.head-fi.org/t/529144/recommendations-thread-i-e-dont-start-a-new-thread-ask-for-advice-here-please-read-op/14130#post_8315472) 2 days ago but didn't get any response, so i have to create a new thread, sry abt this.

These cans do not need an amp. If you think you need one then get one but get it after you buy the headphones. No sense spending money if you don't have to. According to this the 438's have a detachable cable, if that's important to you. Other than that, the design is pretty much the same, both are closed, and the frequency response is the same. My guess is that the 439 and 438 are the same headphone, one is just a newer model. They probably use the same driver but I don't know that for sure.

I would pick the cheaper of the two if they are new.  They are virtually the same except the 439 has the detachable cord and an open grill on each ear piece.  Both are considered closed headphones.

Here are the charts for the 438 as I could not find them for the 439.

If you can find them in your area the Audio Technica ATH-M50 is also another great headphones in this price range.

You get a little more on the low end with the M50:

I think whatever you end up with will be just fine.  They are all low impedance and high sensitivity so using them with a portable device should be no problem.
