So my setup is:
Little Dot Dac -> XLR/TRS balanced -> KRK Rokit 5

I want to get a sub. What should I be looking at? Ideally I would want to get it used, but most of my local listings only have speaker level outputs.

Ideally the simplest setup for me would be:

Dac -> balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA -> Subwoofer -> Balanced XLR/TRS or unbalanced RCA -> KRK Rokit 5

KRK Rokit 5s only have balanced XLR, TRS and unbalanced RCA inputs.
My DAC only has balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs.

So the question is: what do I do about these speaker level outputs on subwoofers without going out and buying a receiver or amp or whatever.

Thanks.

Home audio subs should typically have RCA inputs because they have internal amps. Some many only have a single RCA input because they are designed for use with an HT receiver. But there should be plenty of options out there with dual RCA inputs.

If you are looking at passive home audio subs, then likely you are looking at cheap, HTIB subs that are meant to go with an HTIB setup. Otherwise, you don't find passive subs in home audio until you get into high end stuff, much more expensive than your Rokits.
