I was wondering what kind of concert/movie dvd's that people here on head-fi have and would recommend getting. I've got like 10 of them myself and most sound great and are incredibly enjoyable to watch. Most of my collection revolves around Pink Floyd and the members solo works (one of my favorite bands).

Ones I have:
-Pink Floyd: Live At Pompei The Directors Cut - this is incredibly awesome footage from 1972, it also has decent sound. All the music they play is from pre-dark side of the moon albums.

-Pink Floyd: The Wall - Classic.

-Roger Waters In the Flesh - Live - This concert dvd is practically 3 hours long and was probably the best 15$ I've spent on a DVD. The sound is absolutely incredible and they play lots of pink floyd hits and a couple of Roger Waters solo songs.

-David Gilmour In Concert - Another great DVD by David Gilmour of pink floyd, he mostly plays the acoustic guitar but does some classic floyd and also plays the lap steel/slide guitar, which rules!

-Roger Waters: The Wall Live in Berlin - Lots of great guest musicians in this massive live concert.

-Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Rust Never Sleeps - A good concert.

-Slayer: War At The Warfield - Slayer!!! I'm seeing them live at the warfield in a few weeks!

-Alice in Chains: MTV Unplugged - This is one of my all time favorite concert/music CD/DVD's ever. Although Layne Staley looks like a Zombie from all the heroin its a great unplugged concert.

-Led Zeppelin DVD - Some incredible footage from the 70's on this DVD, the sound and video has been remastered to great extents.

So please give me some recommendations, I really want to expand my collection!

You MUST get The Last Waltz DVD. It is the last concert performed by The Band, and has many guest artists, including Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and more. Great picture and sound quality. I highly recommend it!

Wear hearing protection for this one, or else your ears will be ringing for days if not the rest of your life. Slayer concerts are unbelievably loud, they make Ozzy and Metallica sound quiet.

I've actually seen Slayer once before about a year ago. The volume was loud and my ears rang for a day or two so I will probably bring ear plugs this time. Slayer was nothing like Megadeths volumes when I saw them though, I could barely even make out what song they were playing.

I can't believe you don't have Stop Making Sense (Talking Heads)

Recently saw PNYC (Portishead New York) -- that was extremely excellent, and I can't imagine too many people not liking it. "Roads", in particular, is sublime with a small ensemble orchestra.

Find something by Laurie Anderson -- not sure if she's available on DVD, though, yet.

Peter Gabriel, Secret World Live

You would probably like Steve Hackett. Based on the tracklists, I imagine any of Tokyo Tapes, Hungarian Horizons or Somewhere in South America would be good.

Couple of nights ago, I picked up the DVD of A&E Live By Request: Hall and Oates. This was a concert broadcasted on the A&E channel earlier this year. Excellent show....these guys still sounded great after all these years. Some of the songs were performed acouctically, which really showed off the quality of the songwriting. I picked this DVD up for $15.00 at Tower Records and it even came with a CD of the concert. Blue-eye soul at its very best....highly recommended!!

Also recommend the DVD of Genesis: The Way We Walk - Live In Concert. This was filmed during the last tour of Genesis with Phil Collins. However, the 2-DVD set features new commentaries by Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks, although I can hardly understand what they are talking about. This is the only Genesis concert on DVD. For now.

Need concert DVD of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler for region 1; these are available in Europe already.

I have a few DVD concerts.
AC/DC - Stiff Upper Lip, this is way better sounding than the No Bull concert. I like this one.

Motley Crue - Lewd Crued and Tattooed. This is a good DVD although I don't watch it much. It is worth the price just to see Samantha Maloney working the drums at this concert. I think it was in Salt Lake City. She is great.

Cradle of Filth - Heavy Left Handed and Candid. (signed by the band) The concert was at Rock City Nottingham, which from the DVD doesn't look like a very large setting. There is also a bunch of strange stuff on here and a documentary of the band. I honestly can't recommend this, unless you were a huge fan of Cradle of Filth and just have to every thing they ever did.

AC/DC has a new DVD that will be released in the states in a couple days. I have it on pre-order. I saw an import version at Hastings a couple weeks ago. It has a feature where you can follow just one of the guys through an entire song, rather than the usuall angles. This should be interesting.

While this varies a little bit from the direction of the thread, I'd like to say what a boon opera DVDs are. Since opera is a visual as well as a aural spectacle, DVDs are by far the preferred way to enjoy a recorded opera, and in many ways, even preferable to being at a live performance.

I've been looking forward to TOOL's concert DVD which should be out soon.
Also OPETH filmed 2 shows in England last month & should be out soon as well.

I have Pearl Jam's Touring band 2000 and don't like it.Too folksy.
Oasis's Familiar to millions is good if you like the music, but the brothers are total a##holes. Actually the extras with loads of footage of the fans drinking & having a good time (some not, too wasted) is the highlight of the DVD.

I probably need to go to Bruce Springsteen detox...but you can add "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Live in Barcelona" to my list.

Just got it and it's fantastic. Best concert DVD sound I have heard.

That in NY? where he plays the whole of the intro to Shine On unaccomponied on the acoustic? have it recorded on video (was shown on tv over here).. didn't realise it was available (if it is that one)... sweet.

In early December, EMI will be releasing Genesis: Live at Wembley Stadium. The concerts were recording using Sony Hi-Def video equipemnt and has been remixed into 5.1 surround sound. I remember seeing this concert as a demo at some electronics store many years ago (on laserdisc?). This one is a "must buy" for me. Hmmm....maybe Genesis w/ Peter Gabriel in concert on DVD soon??

Worth a mention is the 1990 concert of Live at Knebworth. Finally reissued on DVD (it was one of the first concerts to make it onto DVD) again. The lineup is pretty good

....Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Tears For Fears, Genesis/Phil Collins, Robert Plant w/ Jimmy Page, etc.... just 2 or 3 songs from each but still a great show.

Second "The Last Waltz" and "Stop Making Sense" will add Nine Inch Nails "All the could have been". Great concert DVD, if a little rough around the edge production-wise.
