I just bought a new external HDD for my computer and I can't seem to get the computer to recognise it. The device appears in my Device Manager and it indicates that it is working properly. However, in the properties page under status, it says that the HDD is not "initialized" and it is not listed under My Computer. What can I do before I return the HDD?

Try changing the letter assigned to the external HD. That worked for me when my drive wasn't recognized. With my card reader and other drives I use in usb ports, I got tired of the conflicts and simply gave my external the letter Z.

Hope this helps.

Very good. Glad it worked out. One other thing....if you have music on that drive that you try to access with a program such as foobar, you'll need to point that program to that new drive letter.

Have a good one.
