My brother just got a firewire card in his computer, and it seems to have introduced a nasty noise to the sound coming out of the headphones. The soundcard is a monstersound MX300 and the headphones are sony mdr-v100s. Hes tried moving the two cards around in different slots, but the sound still remains. We know it is the firewire card because once the card was removed the noise dissapeared as well. Anyone know what the problem is, solution to?
thanks

Does it happen with the firewire-card alone, or only when something is connected to the card?

It happens in both instances, although it gets a bit louder when a camcorder is plugged into it.

Well this is the exact reason why playing off a computer is a no no, too much electromagnetic interference. If you can play with demagnetizing schemes (ask jude!) you can solve it... otherwise I don't think he has a choice (external DACs so far are only two channel, if he needs more, oh well).

Ah, jude has you guys too paranoid about EMI. You can still get great sound using a computer, though it won't be as good as from a stand-alone player. As for the firewire noise, not much you can do about it.
