Listening to barbers adagio for strings at about half volume not realising I had to rock music in the same folder, playlist on random. Result... biggest shock of the week and having to rip my headphones off my head to avoid ear death

Just crazy how much louder the rock was, at least 6x the perceived loudness.

Hmmm... hot mastered rock music, blessing in disguise?

You guys should never listen to "Mainliner Sonic" by Mainliner. I swear, it's the loudest thing I've ever heard.

You could of course build or buy a vu meter, and add a mute switch. When the vu says volume is optimum take it out of mute. Foolproof and safe listening. I am just finishing my led vu meter build.

I was just going to say this. After replaygaining all my music I never have this problem anymore.

That sounds pretty bad. I usually turn my volume dial up for classical recordings, and then back down when I switch to any kind of pop disc... with digital music players, I guess you'll need Replaygain.

Because the dap was in my pocket, and it's pretty tight in there if you get what I mean.

ReplayGain is great.

I had a good time relaxing at the beach. What a beautiful sunset, the soft and gentle sounds of the waves rolling in. In an instant, I awake, to a crazy axe murderer at the foot of my bed!
