Matt, Greg & I got together for a mini-Phoenix meet, today.

Matt had his Melos Class A amp, Greg had his SAC class A amp, and I had my Crown D60 class AB/B. Unfortunately Greg didn't have his K1000 to 1/4" plug cable, so we were not able to see if the Melos could drive the K1000 effectively.

Soundwise, the SAC was head and shoulders over the Crown in transparency and high end clean-ness. I believe Greg said, "well it doesn't sound like you'll need a subwooofer with the Crown when playing the K1000s".

Guess I'll be upgrading to a class A integrated amp, soon, to see if there's a differance. As it is, I find the Crown doing yeoman's duty - it drives all my headphones well, from the Grado SR80 and ATH AD10 to the K501 and K1000.

Next up for me will be getting a better cd player, which will be directly connected to the Crown amp.

I just picked up a Parasound HCA-1000 for the K1000. It has 130v/us slew rate, separate power supplies, dual mono signal circuitry, input impedance 33K ohms, 1.2V for full output, 110 dB S/N ratio, damping factor of 800 @ 20 Hz @ 8 ohms, 75wpc @ 8 ohms, 5 Hz - 100 KHz, +0/-3 =dB at 1 watt, 45 amps peak per channel, THD & IM < 0.03% at full poweer, Interchannel Crosstalk > 80 dB @ 20 KHz, high bias classA/AB, direct coupled, 775 VA toroidal transformer, rear volume level pots.

sound? nice. real nice.

retail $650. I bought it used for $350.
