With all this interest in the K701’s, who's done a comparative review of the K701’s and K501’s.
From what I’ve read so far, I’m getting the impression that the K601’s are more in line with the 501’s (like going from the HD600 to the HD650)and the K701’s are more than a marginal upgrade, or am I wrong.
Not having a pair to review in Toronto would be a leap of faith.

I have the 501s and like them but the 701s would be the step to take if you like akg sound. I'm waiting to see what headphile does with the 701s.

I don't yet have a pair of 701s to compare with my 501s, and I haven't yet read any in depth comparisons, but here's one quote from the 701 users thread:

Congrats. It'll be good to hear your impressions. They'll be spread out over a long time period, though. Remember, those phones need to burn-burn-burn — but you'll have lots of fun riding the burn-in curve. You'll already know that if you bought your 501s new.

Yes, i know about burn of 701...

I hope that it will be a very upgrade for 501 (that i love).

The 701 is arrived....

Ok, i know that is important burn it but i can say that the
701 is of a other category.
As regards 501 he has: 1) Impact ( especially in bass and drums ) 2) Depth in soundstage 3) Sweetness in the middle ones

This is a WONDERFUL upgrade of akg 501.

In this week end i give you some photo (with my esound and g&w).

I'm still thinking about getting the K601, hope also the "little sister of the K701" can be a good upgrade of the K501, mantaining their "magic".

The 701 is very dinamic! Very clear in some dinamic tracks (especially in bass and midrange) like jamiroquai, brand new heavies, incognito, james taylor quartet ecc.

In this traks the 501 was no good.
