I recently traded my AKG K550's for a pair of MS1000's and find that I am missing the AKG sound. I loved the amount of detail the K550 had and how neutral they were, and after going through both the q701 and k612 appreciation threads I still have no clue which would be the better choice. From what I have gathered the q701 is more analytical with an eliptical sounding soundstage, and the K612 are more neutral making them better for a wider selection of music. I have also heard mixed things about the bass for both of them, and I know there is a bass mod for the q701, but from what I have read it sounds more like the K612. I listen to a wide variety of music (metal to indie) and game. My source is USB to my Aune T1 with a gold lion tube. Is this efficient enough to drive either of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the best price you can get for the K612 Pro and Q701?

From looking around, the K612 could be gotten for around $160, and the q701 around $165 for like new condition with box. So they are very close to each other.
