I just went from a 5.1 to 2.0 setup and I do miss my surround speakers a bit :). I'm trying to set up the sound in games properly. As far as I understand the proper setup should be:
a/ Game Mode selected in X-Fi settings
b/ CMSS-3D turned on in the X-Fi settings
c/ number of speakers in X-Fi settings set to 2.0/2.1
d/ number of speakers in WIndows (7, if it does matter) set to 7.1 surround
e/ number of speakers in the game itself set to highest possible

Am I right or there's something wrong here?

For music, obviously, I should set Audio Creation mode + 2.0 in Windows and 2.0/2.1 in the X-Fi panel, all enhancements off, I suppose.

Might try post questions about Creative Labs sound card stuff on this forum.

Already did :). Seems that while CMSS-3D use in headphones is widely discussed and documented, not much about it when it comes to stereo speakers.
