I'm thinking of kickin' it lo-fi and going with an Altoids CMoy for a headphone amp for my PCDP and/or iPod setup and wondered what's a decent price to pay for a well made Altoids type tin CMoy?

These look pretty decent:

Is around $40 too much? I figure it's about $20 in parts to build a basic one (around $50 in parts for a premium one?). While I might be able to pull it off, part of me doesn't want to deal with the headache of troubleshooting, etc.

$40 is pretty standard pricing for a standard one. I would give it a go yourself, maybe get you into the DIY world and save and make quite a bit of extra cash in the future.

With good quality parts it will run you about $55.00 and you get bass boost as well.

I got it pretty close to $15 doing it myself. But I have a local shop that sells everything by the chip.
