Do I only need to buy what is says under required materials???

judging by your question, you probably haven't read Tangent or Chu Moy's articles about the cmoy. if you just want the amp to work and don't care to know what certain components do, build it using the parts in the required parts list. if you want to streamline the build, read the articles and decide for yourself what "required parts" really are required.
