Looking for a good pair of closed headphone under 500$
Will be using a fio e17 for amp/dac.
rock , EDM are major music genres but i listen to mostly anything that sounds good other than classical.
 
Also my usage is divided as 70 percent at home and 30 percent outside. Would it be possible to use open headphones outside if i dont care what people think of me im 24 and dont mind looking like a hippie..

Take a look at the B&W P7 , Tyll from InnerFidelity has a great review on them ...they are said to have great energy and extension in the top end and good bass response too

The problem with open is isolation as well. You would need to set the volume so much higher...

Another options. With a $500 budget, get an open pair for at home, and then spend the rest on a pair for portable use. Open headphones are awesome because of their bigger soundstage.

If you would like some good bass emphasis, HE-400 or Philips X1.

What about the Ultrasone PRO 900's? Miraculous bass, comfy, lots of accessories (2 sets of cables and earpads), and there's one on amazon marketplace for just under your budget (499). They're really light so portability won't be an issue, and the low impedance can be driven off everything from an iPhone to a macbook (no amp required).
