Can anyone point me in the direction of some closed headphones to look into? Something that is all-around decent, but can hold its own against the PRAT of the RS-1s and the excellent trebles on the AD900

What's your budget ? I think that the Edition 9 would be exactly what you are looking for. They are fast, the bass is to die for and the treble extension is very good.

Ah, that looks very nice. But it's kind of hard to justify a purchase over 1k+ without trying them first. I wonder if there are any such stores in the San Francisco Bay Area....

Are there any other suggestions in a price range sub 1k?

I've found the JVC DX-1000 to be a nice complement to the RS-1. Good isolation, PRAT on par with the RS-1, nice balanced presentation on the warm side (translated not neutral, but FUN akin to the RS1).

No experience with the other closed cans. When I purchased the DX1000 my primary concern was isolation. The D5000 and W5000 were other can's I considered but both are reported to be somewhat leaky soundwise. I never really considered the Edition 9 as people seemed to really love or hate it. You will be hard pressed to get closed cans similar to the RS1 for less than $1000 IMHO.
