Hi,
what closed headphone sounds like the Sennheiser HD600 (650).

I know about the "half" closed Beier DT880, Sony ... 3000 ......

and some from AudioTechnika - but I did not know which model?

AT ... 1000?

It should be the "best price" between 200 .... 500 $ (or €).

Gives an Audio Technika dealer in Europe?

I think the only closed headphone I've heard that sounds similar to the HD650 is the W5000, but even that is stretching "similar" to a great degree. The headphones you listed are good headphones, but they don't really do exactly what the HD650 does. Unfortunately there aren't as many choices when it comes to closed cans... what do you like about the HD650 best?

EDIT: And oh, what's the price range? In your second post there you have headphones ranging up to $2,000... the L3000 is pretty expensive.

The closed headphone are then the second .....

What the difference between the ATH A1000 and W1000?

While similar in shape and obviously coming from the same company, and both belonging to the mid-high end audiophile market, the ATH-W1000 and ATH-A1000 are very different headphones. The W1000 comes from the woody line and shares its design characteristics with that line. It is the cheapest and, in my opinion, the worst of all the woodies. This is the bottom of their top end audiophile line.

The A1000 is the top of the aluminum line (though the A1000 itself is made with titanium). These headphones have different drivers and a different sonic characteristic than the woodies. The A1000 is the top of the more mid-line audiophile line.

I'm not familiar with the A1000. I wasn't that impressed with the A900. There is no closed HD6x0 equivalent, but for people who like the HD6x0 and absolutely need a closed can, I point them to the ATH-W11JPN or W10VTG. Good luck finding one though.

I'm fairly certain you won't be satisfied until everyone is on a fruitless quest for those headphones and unhappy.

Supposedly the DT250 isn't too far off.

The ATH-A900LTD and A1000 on some Chinese forums has been compared and some there prefer the A900LTDs. I know that many here "dised" the A900LTD here since they just can't be that good but these are some that should be considered in this comparison. It is also my opinion that some here that have "dised" the A900LTDs have not given them much time. I have both the W1000 and the A900LTD. I prefer the A900LTD. It has a more balanced sound overall than the W1000, better bass and is smoother in presentation. This combines well with a detailed source like my Lavry DA10. It has very deep bass with the same high frequency presentation of all the ATH line. Some say the mids are recessed but I think they are thinking mostly of the A900s. It has been shown that the whole line of ATH closed phones has some dip in the 200 to 400 hz range compared with its open brothers and this is shown as being less pronounced as you go up the line. Even the touted L3000 has been shown to have a bit of a dip but not to any great extent.

Just my opinion about the A1000 after reading extensively and having the A900TLD and W1000 with the DT880 in comparison with each other. I have heard the HD600 and HD650 at meets but for very short periods. I also have heard the HD580. It is my opinion that the Senn house sound in not my particular cup of tea. I prefer the ATH house sound. I would also prefer the AKG house sound to the Senn. so you could also check out the K271S but those would be much less bass that the A900LTD.

The woodie option is much less expencive then buying new headphones, but then you have less to display on a headphone rack

Well, the honest truth is that I see people talking about the W1000 or A900, and they don't realize both are pretty garbage compared to the discontinued woodies. I kinda feel bad for them, but I suppose they don't know any better.

I am somewhat curious about the A900LTD. Only because I'm wondering if audio-technica managed to bring the A900 to some level of acceptable performance with the LTD. I doubt it though.

Best,

-Jason

A900 sounds like the HD600 in some respects, but doesnot sould like HD600's balance, resolving and open..

Your opinion (it also sounds like FOTM syndrome might have struck again).

IMO, and many others, the A900s are very, very good at the $200 pricepoint, open or closed.

Aren't completely subjective subjects fun? Everyone's an expert. I can call any phone I want complete sht and there's nothing anyone can say except "I disagree".
