I'm searching for a great closed headphone sub $1000. Most of it's use will be at work, and while traveling. It needs to be able to be driven by my JDS C5D, or other portable amp (sub $300). I listen to mainly hip hop and r&b on Tidal Hifi.
My headphone lineage is Audio Technica M-50 > Shure 940 > Shure 535 > Shure 846.
There aren't many places in Cleveland to trial different phones (Sam Ash and Guitar Center). So I've had a string of Shure products. I like the Shure mids, but the highs need just a hint of sparkle. I like my bass tight, deep, and a lot of presence.
