Hello All,

I've researched this forum and others and am thinking about these three makes/models:

Ultrasone HFI-780 for ~$250

Shure SRH840 for ~$175

Audio Technica*ATHM50 for ~$100

I bought a pair of Audio Technica ATH-AD700 last year, but have two issues with them. They don't fit my head very well (it is long and narrow) because I always think they are going to slide down lower. Also, the open back noise leakage limits my ability to use them in the same room while the wife watches TV.

So, am looking for more comfortable and closed back set of cans. Have read some comments about the comfort of the ATHM50s not being up to pare, even though they got a good review recently in Stereophile. So that got me looking at other makes/models.

My main source will be an iPod using lossless files and a Nuforce Icon Mobile amp/dac. Yep, I know the DAC isn't doing anything for the iPod. Sure wish a digital signal could be had easily and affordably from iPods.

Other recommendations?

Regards,
Scott

Maybe a Denon D2000 or Beyerdynamic Dt880? What are you going to be using them for?

edit: Btw the 780's can be had for $190 at rmcaudiodirect.com

Editted my prior post to show main use being an iPod fed thru a Nuforce Icon Mobile amp.

I would go for the HFI-780's.
Really good pair, which will run decently well out of your Nuforce.
Not to mention, out of those three they're also the most portable.

Portability is not an issue. I have a set of Shure e5cs for traveling.

Also already own a set of Sony MDR-V6s and am looking for a significant improvement over them in fidelity. The V6s make my ears sweat too, which I don't like.

I find the HFI 780 more comfy than the 840s.
