Recently i've been looking to purchase Beyer DT770s because i need a closed full sized set of headphones and from what i gather these are great headphones.

I tend to prefer bassy IEMs but i was looking for a full-sized headphone that is closed and that will offer good separation of instruments (not necessarily with strong bass, but presence of bass), i'd like to get more detail in my music, more suttleties. I will be getting an amp (most likely Mini3) but i was just wondering before i purchase if i should be looking at any other models...Denon D2000s maybe?

If i do get nice detail in the high end of the sound spectrum, AND bass from the Beyers, i'm ordering ASAP!

The 770s should fill the bill quite nicely... I'm assuming you're looking at the 770 Pro/80?

D2000's have great instrument separation imo.

Maybe the DT770 2005 edition? I find they have incredible soundstage and detail for a closed can. But they are out of your budget unfortunately, unless you buy used

Ultrasones is also an alternative... As for DT 770 PRO it has an even smaller soundstage than the Proline 750 and not as good separation. The PRO series give you all the details you need anyway

The Beyer DT770's are probably your best "Closed" choice in your price range bit if you can swing the Denons', You won't be sorry. They can both Rock the bass but the Denons have IMHO a much wider, Spacious soundstage. and are better for more genre than the Beyers

Hehehe, the Ultrasone have a sugar bass, and a nice S-logic for better separation...

+1 on Ultrasone. They have excellent ability to separate. If you can, it is a good idea to stretch and get the Pro 750.

Ultrasone HFI-680 or HFI-780 (if you want some strong bass).

Denon AH-D2000 if you want to go over $200. The 680/780 can be found for $150 no sweat.

Neither can needs an amplifier, but both benefit strongly from one. Both of these cans are generally considered to need a recabling, specifically the 680/780. With a recabling, both phones excel (Some say the recabled 780 comes up to 90-95% of the performance of the Ultrasone Edition 9, a $1400+ phone!).

The Ultrasone Pro 750 are very good with an involving sound and good separation.
