A colleague of mine is investigating for closed cans that would allow him to enjoy good music in the office space. They have to be closed, so as not to bother other people and he has preference for a more mellow and bass rich (not too heavy, though) sound.

Any good suggestions?

No, the HD485 is open.

The Senn HD228 would fit this bill, though they are on-ear cans. Should be available for a chunk less than the budget, too. Beyer DT-231/235's too, but imho the HD228 is more warm-sounding.

Looking back I see you are right, my bad. Sound leakage has never been a problem for me while owning these though; I never heard others complain about it (as opposed to for example my Grado SR60's, which are as loud to you as to anyone in the same room).
