Cleaning vinyl?

There is controversy, but the received view is that pure alcohol is not good. Do a search at www.audioasylum.com and you'll find lots of discussion and recipes for homebrew cleaning fluids.

I had a friend who worked at the Princeton Record Exchange (a very good collector's store) and told me that they used alcohol to clean their records. Didn't mention the concentration, however.

Isopropyl leaves a film on things. At least it does on videotape heads. That's why we use 100% denatured. Then again it does seem caustic to use something that strong on records.
