The inner foam disks on my HD 508J became ripped (I've had them for nearly 10 years), and - stupid me - I continued using them. There are now a few tiny spots of dirt on the speaker sufaces.

It seams risky, but is it possible to remove the dirt without damaging them?

They are now safely in their box until replacement foam disks arrive!

I'd try some compressed air (the kind you can buy as a spray, not the kind you'd find at a gas station

), or simple lungpower.

Compressed air in a can may damage them - may 'dink' the diaphragm inwards. Beg borrow or steal one on these puffer brushes used by photo buffs and remove the brush - then gently puff at the dirt - safest way I have found.
